Father's Day is right around the corner and I just want to take a moment to honor the dads, partners, and support people who show up fully for their families. The ones who are present in the birth room, present in the middle of sleepless nights, and present every single day after that.

As a doula I get to witness some of the most powerful moments between partners during labor and birth. And I have to say โ€” watching a dad step up, advocate, comfort, and love his partner through one of the hardest and most beautiful experiences of her life is something I will never take for granted. ๐Ÿ’›

"The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother well โ€” and that starts in the birth room."

Ways Dads Can Show Up This Father's Day & Beyond

01

Be present โ€” truly present

Put the phone down. Be in the room. Whether it's a prenatal appointment, labor, or a quiet evening at home with a newborn โ€” your presence is the greatest gift you can give your family.

02

Learn her birth plan

Know her preferences, her fears, and her wishes. Be ready to advocate for her in the birth room when she may not have the energy to speak for herself. This matters more than most dads realize.

03

Take on nighttime duties

One of the most loving things a partner can do in those early postpartum weeks is take a night feed shift. Sleep deprivation is real and sharing the load makes a world of difference.

04

Check on her mental health

Postpartum depression and anxiety are real. Simply asking "how are you really doing?" and meaning it can open the door to conversations that could change everything.

05

Consider hiring a doula โ€” together

A doula doesn't just support mama โ€” she supports the whole birth team. Many dads feel more confident and less anxious when a doula is present. It's one of the best investments a family can make.
